Amazing clip of dolphins

I love dolphins, and my name (Delphia) means 'dolphin' -- it's from the same etymological root. When I saw this video clip I was floored -- I would love to be 'stampeded by dolphins' as the guy says in the clip.

So here it is, in Windows Media format. If I knew who took the video, I would credit them; since I do not, I will just say THANK YOU!!

LOLPandas

In the spirit of the LOLCat pictures, I bring you my first-ever attempts! When I saw these pictures, I just had to do it! My apologies to the original owners of the photographs -- they were forwarded to me via email; no harm intended, just fun!

I'll send more next post, so it doesn't take a thousand years just to load one post! -- D

Random Act of Kindness: Kern/Vogt letter UPDATED 12-16-08

RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS #2

If you know me, then you know that one of my quirky hobbies is “rescuing” and reuniting old photographs, postcards and letters that I find in antique shops with the nearest relative I can find. You can find my first post about the premiere effort here. My latest effort involves two letters and three photographs. This post is about one of those letters….

Written on what I guess is military-issued stationery, Private Paul J. Vogt writes to his aunt, Mrs. R. E. “Meta” Kern. The letter was written in 1952, and Private Vogt was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri:

Private Paul J. Vogt
Co. A. 15th Med. tk Bn, CCB, Plat 1
6th Armored Division
Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri

Within hours of posting on an Ancestry.com message board, I received a response from Miriam Ackley:

“Hello, this is my husband's family. The receiver is Mrs. Robert E. Kern son of Jesse Kern who was a civil war veteran. He was also (Robert) my mother-in-law’s brother. The closest kin is Darrell [redacted for privacy]. If you will send me your email address, I will send you his address and phone number. I know he would love to receive this letter. Thank you for your consideration.”

Soon after, I responded to her and got Darrell’s address. I wrote a short note to include with the letter, and mailed it off. I hope I hear back from him!

I feel so good about doing this. I hope I am as successful in the future as I have been with my first two attempts at returning a piece of history to its rightful owner….

UPDATE: 12-16-2008

The letter has been received, and I got this email message from Darryl:

"...I received the letter that you sent me. This letter was sent to my grandmother (Meta Kern) from Paul Vogt (her nephew). Paul is still alive and...I will forward it to him. I'm sure he will find this interesting. It really makes a nice story to uncover something 'lost' for so long. Thanks for taking the time and effort to send this to me. I do appreciate it...If it's ok with you, I will give your email address to Paul. He may be interested in getting additional infomation from you."

Yay! So, Paul will get his letter returned to him after he wrote it 56 years ago. Think about it: writing a letter fifty-six years ago and getting to see it again after all this time. Imagine the memories it will bring back for Paul!

I will update this post if and when I hear from Paul [Note: I never did.  -- D, Feb 2014]
